We started rice cereal. I have only given it to him a few times. I haven't been very consistent with it like I should. I was hoping it would help him sleep better. I talked about, in an earlier post, Beau sleeping through the night, and after those two days it never happened again. His normal night time sleep is he goes down at 9 and sleeps 5-6 hours, gets up to eat and then sleeps another 3, usually, sometimes 4. Last night I bathed him and massaged him with lotion, fed him some cereal and then fed him his formula. He fell right asleep at 9, like usual, but didn't get up until 5...so 8 hours isn't bad. I fed him and then he fell back asleep, but only for 2 more hours. I was totally happy with this though. So I am gonna try the same pattern tonight...bath, cereal, formula. Hope it works.
I love giving him the cereal. It's so cute to watch him eat it. Of course, it's a mess. Plus, I haven't gotten any bowls or baby spoons yet. So, I am just using a small glass bowl and the tiniest measuring spoon I could find. I know that is pretty ghetto, but it works for now, until I make it to the store to get real baby stuff. They say that there is some kind of fruit something that you can add to the cereal...can anyone tell me what it is and if you would recommend it. He is only 3 months, and I wasn't gonna give him anything until 6 months, but I did do the cereal in hopes of a better sleep at night. He held it down just fine and seemed to like it, so I am gonna continue with that, but what about the fruit stuff? Advice please.
I would probably wait on the fruit until he's at least 4 months if not just a little bit older. Just let his tummy get used to the cereal first. But whenever you do start doing fruit, bananas are a great one to start with. Although I waited awhile to give Hazel fruit because I wanted her to like her veggies first before I introduced anything sweet. =D But that's just me--you do whatever you feel is right because you're the mommy!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Leanna-Do whatever you feel is right because you're the mommy!
ReplyDeleteHere is some advise from Daron and I:
-When the baby is teething, give them beef jerky to gnaw on.
-Suckers work wonders for calming crying babies.
we recommend dum-dums.
-There is nothing wrong with using earplugs when teaching a baby to sleep through the night.
And Olivia says "I cant believe you can do that all by yourself!!!"
I agree you are the Mommy!! You could ask your doctor but they might make you wait until 4 months!! He looks so cute and happy!! Hope he is happy in Tennessee and his 1st plane ride!!!
ReplyDeleteHey, I started right out on bratwurst and habaneros when I was born. And look at me! Once in a while my mom would feed me some grain alcohol in my milk, but it always curdled it and so she had to pour it down my throat with a funnel and pump. But look at me! When I tried to resist, my dad spanked me with a running chain saw which he'd lit on fire with kerosene. But I turned out okay. And a better man for it.
ReplyDeleteActually, that's not accurate. She didn't give me the habaneros until I was two.
I totally think you should do whatever you feel is right. I don't know if you remember about Briggs...but he couldn't nurse worth anything and he was SO little!! Remember?! And I gave him rice cereal at 2 months and then gave him fruit for the 1st time at 3 months...just cause he wouldn't nurse or take formula! It was horrible...so when I gave it to him he loved it!!! He is just SO STINKIN' cute!! I'm so glad he's doing so well for ya!
